Most loft designs do not require planning permission, they normally can be granted by the local council under a permitted development application.
Permitted Development
As long as you are adding no more than 40cubic metres to the roof space of your house then you can normally submit your loft conversion application via a permitted development application.
If you live within a conservation area then some restrictions may apply and we recommend you speak to the local council first to discuss your application.
Planning
If the council have placed restrictions over development in your area or property then you may be required to submit your loft conversion application via a planning application.
